A-level Art Masterclass

Tuesday 1 July 2025, 10am-2.15pm, free, maximum 15 students.

A free A-Level Art Masterclass at Norwich Castle, supported by the Norwich Freemen's Charity.

Join artist James Metsoja in response to our major retrospective One Self.

One Self: The Creative Life of Colin Self celebrates the boundless creative spirit and work of an artist with a significant, yet unpredictable, practice from the 1960s to today. Our latest masterclass offers A-Level Art students an opportunity to develop their own connection to their personal practice by working with a professional artist.

James Metsoja gained an MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2015. He works primarily with painting, drawing and collage, collecting disparate sources of inspiration from books, museums, art history and photographs. James is interested in how this collection of imagery can be used to create visual narratives of his own process of thought and memory.

In this masterclass students will use a variety of drawing and collage methods to explore the work of Colin Self and the wider collection of Norwich Castle Museum. In the spirit of Colin Self, novel visual and conceptual connections will be made with the intention of developing the students' understanding and progression of their own projects in unexpected ways.

Booking essential via norwichcastle.bookings@norfolk.gov.uk or phone 01603 493636.
