Maximum group size 120, £6 per pupil (£6.50 from 1 September 2026), minimum fee £240 (£260 from 1 September 2026), 10am until 2pm.

The event

Meet Anglo-Saxon and Norman costumed characters to compare and contrast their cultures, re-enact the Battle of Hastings and Anglo-Saxon rebellions, and take a tour of the Castle to discover why it was built, how it functioned and how important it was to the Normans.

Suitable for all exam boards.

Aims and learning outcomes

  • Describe the society of late Anglo-Saxon England.
  • Explain how and why William of Normandy became King of England in 1066.
  • Describe and explain the Saxon rebellions.
  • Explain the key features, importance, nature and purpose of Norman castles in England.
