Our Royal Palace is about to be reborn

We are thrilled to announce that Norwich Castle Keep will reopen to the public on Thursday 7 August.

Reopening the Keep

Tickets are not on sale yet. We will update this page when they do go on sale. Or sign up to our museums newsletter to make sure you're the first to know when booking opens.

In the meantime, all the building work is complete. Our project team is hard at work preparing the spaces to welcome visitors.

This includes installing all the furniture, textiles and interactive elements. These will bring the spaces alive, turning the clock back 900 years to when the keep was first completed as a Norman royal palace.

Curators have the delicate task of installing over 900 medieval objects in our brand-new Gallery of Medieval Life: A British Museum Partnership.

We are previewing the new spaces with key supporters, including the general public. This will allow us to understand the visitor experience and ensure everything is ready for opening. The previews are also a way of saying 'thank you' to some of those who have made the project possible.

About the project

Norwich Castle is one of Europe's most important early medieval castles. Royal Palace Reborn is transforming the interior of the Keep by reinstating the floors and room layout of the medieval period. We have sensitively planned this work to provide step-free access to all levels of the castle. This is so everyone can experience a Norman royal palace and its many stories.

The first phase of this exciting project was completed last summer with the opening of our new entrance. The stunning light-filled atrium also includes a new shoprestaurant and education room. This follows on from the earlier completion of new toilets with a Changing Places facility for visitors with additional needs.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for this major project. It is one of the largest heritage projects of its kind currently taking place in the UK. Thank you to our wonderful supporters who are helping to make this incredible project a reality.
